[john-planting-pumpkins.jpg] John planting pumpkins.

[john-with-little-plant.jpg] John showing off a young pumpkin plant.

[pumpkins-before-weeding.jpg] One of the pumpkin patches before weeding.

[john-weeding.jpg] John weeding vigorously. Check out that swing!

[john-rototilling.jpg] Rototilling all those pesky weeds.

[post-weeding.jpg] Same pumpkin patch, post-weeding.

[bigger-weeds.jpg] The result of additional major slacking in the weed-pulling department. Bad news!

[bug-attack.jpg] Along with the weeds came a major insect attack. More bad news! We had had trouble all summer long with these bugs but this was the major population explosion.

[midnight-insecticide.jpg] Despite the growing darkness we counterattacked with insecticide. Unfortunately much of the damage was already done. These nasty little critters destroyed a significant portion of our crop.

[john-with-pumpkins.jpg] John with our August harvest about three weeks after they were picked. Most of our vines died and John was forced to harvest those pumpkins. He picked 38, but by the time of this photo we had lost 18 to rot.

[john-in-pumpkin-patch.jpg] Our smaller pumpkin patch. There are four pumpkins still growing (as of September 10) including our biggie.

[reid-with-big-pumpkin.jpg] Reid with our extra-large pumpkin. We've got our fingers crossed that it won't get eaten by the bugs. There is already significant scarring from bug attacks, which is clearly visible in this photo.
